It should come as no surprise to learn that Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz says his company has no interest in acquiring BEA. Deep in its soul, Sun remains a hardware company that dabbles in software. Even it it were more software oriented in its strategic outlook, Sun couldn’t leverage BEA nearly as successfully in the marketplace as, say, Oracle could.
It’s time for Larry Ellison to eat humble pie and negotiate a reasonable buyout price with BEA. The macho-letter vendetta was good fun while it lasted, but there comes a time to put aside the truncheons and do some honest bargaining. That time is now.
